Asalaamu alaykum,

What people don't realize is that the Lebanese government is illegitimate. It is based on a census more than 50 years old and was created precisely to keep the people divided. The President must be a Christian, the Prime Minister must be a Sunni, and the speaker must be a Shii'. Is this democracy? If it was a real democracy as George Galloway said, "Hassan Nasrallah would be the President because he would get most votes." The Mossad has been trying desperately to create strife with them more than ever after Israel received a disgraceful defeat back in 2006. I am Lebanese and I have a lot of family there. It's not Shia vs Sunni vs Marionite Christian vs Druze at all. This is a fabrication that the media is spreading. If that was the case, why does Michael Aoun (a Christian) support the resistance? Why are there countless Sunni religious leaders in Lebanon who are against the government? The problem is that for political gain and because of bribery, some groups want to spark a civil war. This is a direct result of foreign interference. There are people in the Lebanese government working for the US, Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia, etc. Most Lebanese people don't hold hatred for other groups. When Hizbullah took over Beirut in only a few hours, they could have easily taken over the government and began ruling like the case in Gaza, but they handed it over to the army. This is a big proof that they don't want to setup an Islamic government and they are supported by many Sunnis and Christians. What Lebanon needs is to put an end to foreign interference and give the people of the South a bigger role in the government since they are a majority. And sadly, I don't think this can happen with people like Hariri, Jumblatt, and Gaegae (a convicted murderer) involved.

census was in 1933...I enjoyed Lebanese hospitality in Beirut in 81/82 where I worked in Verdun until the zionist invasion which was greated with rice by the shias very much against the Palestinians...history isn't only in books but lived by those who survived it
