The United Arab Emirates’ city of Dubai is set to appoint female muftis by the end of next year in an unprecedented step that allows women to issue fatwas, or religious edicts, press reports said on Tuesday.
Wan Ubaidah Omar, a cabinet minister from northern Kelantan, which the party controls, said the proposal aired in state parliament this week was needed to help single mothers and widows in the underdeveloped region.

London Muslim is very concerned at this worrying development for a number of reasons. First the irony of course is that the men asking for a certificate may themselves have already got their leg over so not happy on hypocrisy grounds.
