Whilst America has been absorbed by the Afghan election imbroglio, a less-noticed event slid into place in the Middle East. It is less dramatic than President Karzai’s near removal; but this event tilts the strategic balance: Turkey finally shrugged off its US straight-jacket; stared-past any beckoning EU membership, and has fixed its eyes toward its former Ottoman Asian and Middle Eastern neighbours.

A while ago, a good friend, and fellow thinker, Sakiya Sandifer, asked me to compose and article on the recent and tragic shootings at Fort Hood military base. As I watched the news, the words “killer,” “Muslim,” “terrorist,” and “Islamic” seemed to roll across the screen as it made its way in the context of conversation being offered by the journalist. It appeared, in a continuing trend, that the media was looking to take the actions of alleged “Muslim” gunman’s act of terror, and immediately try to connect his actions to a fundamentalist, violent, radical, but extremely profitable and marketable form of Islam. I affectionately call this making doe on the “Muslim Problem.” For those who are new to this…

treachery with Islam and the Muslims. Both the dictators and democratic rulers have become an extreme security risk for the country. Both brought Pakistan’s nuclear assets under the command of an American special squad as well as mortgaged Pakistan’s sovereignty to secure their rule. The article also highlighted the fact that India and America are not afraid of any dictatorship or some “real democracy”, rather they are only frightened of the return of the Khilafah; and in this context the struggle of Hizb ut-Tahrir for the re-establishment of the Khilafah is the biggest threat. That is precisely the reason why Hizb is banned throughout the Muslim world though it is a non-violent political party.

The idea appeared in early 1989 in which time the late General M. Amir al-Hajj Yusuf as to convey the idea of a monumental mosque in Ujung Pandang (now Makassar) to the various figures who perform the pilgrimage, including Munawir Sjadzali, Edi Sudradjat, M. Jusuf Kalla and some others; and spontaneous acclaim.
